What If Efficiency Isn’t the Only Goal?

Technology, remote work, and now AI have transformed how quickly we can communicate, produce, and respond. At the same time, the pace of change itself continues to accelerate—requiring leaders and organizations to adapt faster than ever.

But what helps us adapt well?

Learning.

Drawing on my own experience leading in high-pressure environments and emerging thinking about how AI is changing learning at work, this month’s article explores an important tension: the same forces helping us move faster may also crowd out some of the experiences that help us develop curiosity, judgment, reflection, and human connection.

Efficiency matters. But as we remove friction and accelerate the work, leaders also need to ask: What is worth protecting?

Because the challenge ahead may not simply be how quickly we can adapt, but whether we are learning as fast as we are adapting.
